Long time no see

Hello my few, very few lovely, exclusive, VIP subscribers! :))) How have you all been?

I apologize for missing in action for more than a few days, but I have an excuse.  A very serious one.  I was on vacation.  AND I HAD NO INTERNET.  I’m having a hard time sounding sorry, because in all honesty everything was so calm and beautiful, and I really enjoyed myself.

Sometimes, seclusion is all we need to relax.  OK, and sun.  And the sea.  And ridiculous amounts of food.

My vacation for this summer are over, I now have to work for the rest of the summer.  Oh, the horror!

Anyway, I was in Cyprus, and it was lovely.  Even been there?  What are your holiday plans?  Tell me and make me green with envy!

Stay tuned for new posts 🙂

Blixz Nail Foils

Warning:  If you are one of those people that hates looking at toes, then look away now.  Because I’m about to show you my tootsies.

So, Blixz are these sticker foil thingies that you stick on your nails, then you file off the rest of the foil at the edge of the nail, and voila!  Pretty nails!

The application is quite easy once you get the hang of it.  The instructions are clear on the package & easy to follow, but if you’re having difficulties there are plenty of YouTube vids you can watch to help you.

They turned out very pretty, if a bit bold for my taste.  I wouldn’t wear this specific black & gold leopard pattern unless I was on vacation, and not on my finger nails, but I would definitely try something more toned town.  I think it’s a great idea over all.

Mine were a gift, but you can find them on amazon and ebay.  I’m not sure if you can get them on their website but check it out www.blixz.com

Pics below, last chance to look away if you’re squeamish about toes!!!

my piggies all blixzed

Have you ever tried these?  What do you think?

UPDATE:  A week later, these are as perfect as the first day I put them on!  And I been walking in the sand, jogging, swimming, etc.  Definitely recommend them for a pedicure while on holidays!

UPDATE No.2:  I removed these 12 days later and they were still looking perfect.  One or two had started to lift just a tiny bit at the edges, but that made them even easier to remove.  Soak them in a bit of aceton before you do so.  Good luck blixzing! xxx

Do we need to apologize for being female & feminine?

I don’t know about you ladies, but this is a subject that troubles me now and then.  See, I was a tomboy for many many years, until I was 20 or so, and had never realized this.  I had never realized how society makes you apologize for being feminine.

I am a woman who works hard, in a very competitive field.  I am just as good as most of my male colleagues.  Yet I notice, that to be respected the same, I need to hide the fact that I am female, and a female that likes to embrace her femininity.

So, please, explain these to me:

Why can a man flaunt his beard, a purely masculine characteristic, while I have to hide any hint of breasts, which is a purely feminine characteristic?

Why can men get all excited about sports (which in psychology is actually considered a fixation on immature behavior) but women can’t talk about nail polish & lipgloss without getting weird what-a-bimbo looks?

Why is a man with a ridiculously expensive car considered successful, while a pair of Louboutins are vain?

Why can a man read about sports everyday and be damn proud of it, but I should “fail to mention” the fact that I read beauty blogs?

Why is it, that in order to be taken seriously and be judged equally, I have to constantly hide the fact that I am feminine?

Forgive me gentlemen, but I have yet to read a study that proves that having facial hair makes you intelligent, and wearing lipstick makes you stupid.

Korres Eyeliner Pencil

I like Korres.  I really do.  Are you on to me yet?

There are products by Korres I don’t like, and I might do a review on them, just so you don’t think I’m full of baloney, but for now…  Here is another Korres product I enjoy using almost everyday.

This is the Eyeliner Long-lasting Cedar wood Pencil in Black. It’s my go to product for daytime because it has the perfect amount of black for a daytime smokey eye and it smudges beautifully. Also, it lasts a good 2-3 hours on the waterline, and even more my top lashline, even without primer, which is a record for my super oily lids. Is lasts longer if set with eyeshadow.

It comes in a variety of colors, but I haven’t tried the rest.  There is also a softer version, labeled “soft”, that I suspect to be blacker if you prefer that, but I’m too afraid to try it in the summer, in fear that it will end up all over my cheeks.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer

As promised, here is the review of the second of the Bobbi Brown concealers that I own.

All in all, these (the creamy concealer and the corrector) both have the same pros and cons.  Amazing quality products, very good pigmentation and cover everything with their luxurious creaminess.  But, quite expensive, very little product, and crease crease crease if not set with powder.

(I set both of them with elf translucent powder, which I absolutely adore, and a fluffy brush.)

The only difference I see between the two is that the creamy concealer is actually a little LESS creamy than the corrector.  This is not necessarily a bad thing.  Right now I’m in Cyprus for vacation and the creamy concealer, which is less creamy, performs better in this hot humid weather.

What do you think of this?

What concealer do you use?  Please tell!

Bobbi Brown Corrector

Another review of a quite amazing product.  This is a celebrity product, we’ve all heard about it.  And there’s a reason for that!

This is amazingly pigmented, extra creamy, and perfectly covers the horrendous dark circles around my eyes.  I’ve tried a lot of concealers, and so far, it’s the best one out there. And, it lasts on my skin for good 7-8 hours, if I set it with powder.  Nothing more to say about it.  If you suffer from bad dark under-eye circles, then this product is a life saver!

Two cons I have to say about it:

1. It is so creamy it creases like crazy.  If I don’t set it with translucent powder it will crease within seconds.  And even with that, a few hours later I do see a little bit of creasing.  I will usually just pat my finger over it and that will take care of the creasing, but still, it’s a flaw.

2. The price compared to how much you get.  I got this at a sale at my local Sephora for 9,5 euros, but it is usually over 20 euros!  And it’s only 1.7 g, so if you use this daily it won’t even last you a long time.

What do you guys think?  Do you have any good concealers to recommend?

Olay Review

Hello, ladies! How have you been?

Skincare review again here! Read on if you ‘re interested!

I’ve been using these two Olay products for the past two months. You all know Olay don’t you?  Used to be really high-end I think, now it’s really affordable. I think these two products were around 10 euros each!  They still have a pretty good reputation, but let’s see…

The one is a night cream called “Olay complete night – night enriched cream”.  It’s supposed to have all the nice and rich ingredients your skin needs to regenerate itself while you ‘re curled up in bed.  This product has a nice clean smell to it, nothing that bothers me, and I’m pretty particular about smells.  It doesn’t smell “old-lady-ish” even though Olay has that kind of tag following it around.  It has a rich, but not oily texture, which leaves my skin feeling quite sumptuous before bed.

What I don’t like about it is that it’s so rich, it sometimes breaks me out.  Not humongous zits, but small whiteheads that clear up until the next day. Now, my skin is pretty oily, so it’s probably not the product’s fault.  On the other hand, not many products have this effect on me, so I will probably not be getting this again.

The second product is an eye cream – “Olay Age Defying Eye Gel”.  It is a completely clear product, so much so that when I first opened the packaging I thought the jar was empty!  This feels very very refreshing around my eyes.  I do feel a sort of pulling sensation as it starts to dry, but not in a bad way.  As if this was doing a “mini-lift” around my eye area, does that make any sense?  I can’t detect any smell to this.

All in all, it’s not an absolute favorite, but I think it’s a good value for money product.  Especially when I compare it to the “Clinique All About Eyes” eye cream.  I usually get along nicely with Clinique products but this stuff made my eyes so freaking itchy, I wanted to scratch my skin off.  (Eww)  It created more wrinkles than it prevented, me thinks.  (I’m giving you the evil eye, Clinique).

Have you any good eye creams to recommend?  Please do.

Greek Islands

The islands of Greece are one of the big loves of my life.

The serenity of them is like nothing else in the world.

Everything smells better, tastes better, feels better, under the hot sun and the salty breeze of a Greek island…

I’m going to be spending this summer in the US, and I know I will sorely be missing my beloved Greece.

The Dreamy Island of Skopelos

Have you ever visited Greece and its islands?  Which one?  Did you enjoy it?

If you haven’t yet, then you most certainly have to.

Korres Lipsticks Swatches

As promised in the previous post, here are the swatches on my lips.  All the pics where taken in natural day light.  No lip liner, no lip primer.  Just one or two light swipes.  These can be built up to be stronger, but I prefer it like this.

My lips are relatively pigmented, as you can see, and quite dry.

You can click on the pics to make them larger.  Excuse the scary details of the photos.  Hey, at least I cropped out my zits!  Eek!

Naked Lips, No balm no nothing, just dry ugly bits 😛

Guava Lipstick - 22 Rose

This, the camera did not pick up very well.  It goes on a pale peachy pink with a goldy sheen to it.  So pretty.  Makes me all happy and warm on the inside.  My mommy got it for me. 🙂

Mango Butter Lipstick, Sheer Color/High Shine - 14 Pink

This is very shiny, almost gives no color to my lips as is, but can be built up to a quite bright coralish pink.

Mango Butter Lipstick - 13 Natural Pink

Such a natural color, goes with absolutely everything.  Love it.

Mango Butter Lipstick - 33 Nude

I don’t think one swipe of this was enough to cover my lips, but still.  It’s one of the few nudes I can wear without feeling too washed out.

Mango Butter Lipstick - 47 Orange Brown

I think I’m in love with this one!!!  I love it against my olive skin tone.  It’s my comfortable version of this season’s orange-ish trend.

Mango Butter Lipstick - 24 Purple

A nice darkish pink, very “appropriate” I would call it.  Could be a bit strong on light skin tones.

Mango Butter Lipstick - 54 Fuchsia

This is swiped very lightly here, it’s a very bright fuchsia pink, with fine silver microglitter in it.  Don’t know if I can really pull it off!  Very party-party!

So, what do you think ladies?  I would love to hear your opinions.  Well, if anyone is out there anyway 🙂
